Lupita Nyong’o might best be known for her work on the silver screen, but the Oscar Award winner is gearing up for a different kind of release. The actress has been hard at work on her first children’s book for quite some time, and now, she’s finally ready to reveal the cover.
Nyong’o took to Instagram to give fans a first look at the cover for Sulwe, a new children’s book aiming at encouraging kids to love themselves.
In the photo, the Black Panther star can be seen posing with the book, which according to the caption will be out later this fall.
“I wrote Sulwe to encourage children (and everyone really!) to love the skin they are in and see the beauty that radiates from within”

The book was first announced in 2018 when Lupita revealed the name, a Luo word meaning “star”. It tells the story of a young girl growing up in Kenya who has the darkest skin color of all her family and is determined to find a way to lighten her skin.
She embarks on an exciting adventure in the night sky coupled with advice from her mother which helps her see beauty differently.
Sulwe was illustrated by Vashti Harrison, an artist and filmmaker who hails from Virginia. The book will be available Oct. 1 and is available for pre-order here.
